Poor Communication Can Lead to Ambiguous Scans

MRI technologists rely heavily on these descriptions, but when symptoms aren’t clear, it can create guesswork during imaging. Later, radiologists stare at these ambiguous scans, trying to decode exactly what they’re seeing since the technologist struggles to communicate the patient’s issue and may not be able to articulate it in the accompanying report.

Picture an MRI technologist faced with a patient reporting generalized upper back pain. Without clear guidance, the technologist positions the patient and scans them, only to discover later that the critical area of concern was slightly off-center. Once the scans reach the radiologist, this small miscommunication can lead to frustration, extra scans, and delays in care.
